It always seemed like my pregnancy weight snuck up on me. One minute, I’m sitting there, wondering if I’ll ever start to show and the next I’m on the phone, screaming “13 pounds? How the heck did I gain 13 pounds?”
Pregnancy, for me, means a constant struggle between wanting to pig out and wanting to keep my weight gain to a minimum. The way I look at it is when else are you going to get the “green light” to eat?
It just happened that my green light headed me straight towards the local bakery. Well, the local bakery, the Taco Bell and the ice cream shop.
We all know calcium is very important for pregnant women.
We’ve all heard the stories of women who gained 100 pounds during their pregnancies after eating only cheese for nine months. (Really, what’s wrong with cheese? I happen to like cheese very much.)
“That won’t happen to me!” you say, while munching on a bag of Fritos. “I will keep it under control... only healthy weight gain for me!”
And then, you get hormonal. Since you are pregnant, drinking, smoking and riding roller coasters are out of the question. So, you eat. The bon bons. Macaroni and cheese. Taco Bell. Hamburgers. Oreos.
One month later, when you step on the scale to find out just how much you’ve gained, you almost faint. I have a feeling that most pregnant women, when they see the large number for the first time, actually hope there’s more than one in there.

This is so true.... I almost died when I went to the doctor the first time and I saw how much I weighed... It's really nice to know, sarcastic or not, that there is someone else out there that you can relate too, because Lord knows not all of us are like the perfect people written about in the magazines.

I so agree also. I swear my belly when i first was pregnant was bigger than it was right now. I used to work out so much, and have the flattest stomach, then I started getting really sick and the only thing that sounded good to me was pizza, wendy's or anything that was fattening. I went from 125 to weighing at my first docs appointment at 135ish. SAD. I was really depressed. Now I just hit my 12th week today, and I don't crave so much fat food and I have started craving healthier stuff, and hence have been not so depressed :) But it's nice to know there are other people out there that are just like me :)

I can relate to that. From my 10th week, while vomiting everytime I turned around, to my 11th week I gained 5 pounds!!!! this is my 3rd child. I know how you can put on pounds but how in one week when all you have eaten is crackers(just to stop puking) can you gain 5 pounds. Now I am in my 14th week and I will not look at the scale. I already can eat my husband under the table. The fattening stuff is all I ever want when I am pregnant. The fatter the better. I will just cry about it later.
Comment on 23rd Nov '06 @ 6:25 pmThis comment is 1
I crave that fattening stuff too, constantly. I am only 10 weeks and on bed rest (not helping with the weight gain) It seems though that even when I crave healty stuff, I can't quit eating til it's gone. I ate a whole bag of baby carrots and ranch in one sitting the other day and then had dinner an hour later.

I gained over twelve pounds from the day I found out I was pregnant to the day I went to the OBGYN for the first time- only six or seven weeks between. I have always been very thin without even trying- thanks mom- and this is a rather odd experience, to say the least. I've gone from being someone who was lucky enough to never have to worry or think about my weight, to being someone who feels like a ravenous, jiggly butt monster. But I'm okay knowing that it's for the baby, and that it will come off, particularly if I breastfeed. I think this has definitely made me more sensitive towards my friends who worry about their weight and struggle with it- I suddenly find myself thinking, what if I go from being a beanpole to being someone who struggles with my weight after the baby? Hmm. It's definitely made me think about issues I never thought about. I'm not going to take my light frame for granted after I deliver. Just going up stairs with this extra twelve pounds is a bit harder- I defintely notice it on me, as far as lugging it here and there. Yikes. And there's about twenty more pounds coming on? It's all good- I want a healthy, happy little boy or girl. Pass the salsa and chips. ;)

I guess I have been somewhat lucky in that I havent craved fatty foods since I got pregnant. Im about 13 weeks now and I ate more unhealthy foods before I got pregnant. When I drive past a McDonald's or Wendy's I have to hold my breath because the smell of the grease nauseats me. Yet I can completely relate to Kerri in that even when I am eating healthy I cant stop eating. It's weird how the body changes so much during pregnancy.

My doc told me I was on the high side of weight gain- 5 lbs. in 3 months, and I have been disturbed for days now. What can I say, I get hungry! Really hungry, and then I get cranky. So, for the sake of those around me, and the baby, I eat when I'm hungry. Thankfully I'm not craving icecream or sweets, or fatty stuff- I think I'm putting on weight because I haven't been going to the gym 5 days a week like pre-pregnancy; yeah, I thought I'd be one of those power women who work out etc. but gosh darn it, I'm just too tired right now after work to go... this too shall pass? Here's hoping! (as I toast you all with a slice of pizza... ahem.)

Thank God people for gaining that weight. I hear you. I have never fluctuated over 2-3 pounds for the last 15 years. I have always been around 120. Oh yeah, 12 weeks and now I weigh 146. OMG! I really don't care though, I have always been thin and this is the first time in my life I want to gain this weight. I love the vuluptuous womanly curves and boobs I finally have. I joke I want to reach 200 pounds, but now I think that is not far fetched. I know I have to watch my weight. I have my 3rd doc appt this Tuesday and am up almost 10 lbs since last time. I hear the lecture coming allready.

What I don't understand is everyone telling me it's okay to gain weight; I've gained 13 pounds and I'm only going on 12 weeks! The madness has got to stop. When I found out I was preggers, the first month was horrible, all I wanted to do was eat and sleep. I was so hungry that I gained 10 pounds in less than a month. I hope it slows down. It's so good to know others are experiencing this as well.

I'm 7 weeks along with my second child... I had the "perfect" 1st pregnancy, and this time seems to be the same...The only difference is I CAN'T STOP EATING!!! And I work in a resteraunt that has the best food ever!!! And everytime I turn around they're handing me pancakes, quiche , mufffins, you name it. Then after work I have to stop at McDonald's for a Big Mac meal ( extra sauce).
I'm grossing myself out!!!
Comment on 3rd Jan '07 @ 10:53 amThis comment is 1
Yes- I relate to all of your comments! I'm 14 weeks pregnant with my second child and for the past 2 months the only food that I can seem to eat without getting sick is mac and cheese and fast food- and I RARELY eat fast food while non-pregnant! I also have not worked out on 2 months. But, if this pregnancy is anything like my first, I will start woking out again soon and that always helps- also, green food is beginning to seem edible again after the fisrt 2 months! I gained 40 pounds with my first, but he was almost 11 pounds (very healthy boy). And really, I lost 30 pounds within 3 weeks of giving birth and the last 10 came off in the next 4 months (breasfeeding helps and it is the best for baby if you can do it). I know we alwyas hear this, but Ill say it again. The most important thing is for you and your baby to be healthy- the weight WILl come off after if we eat healthily and move around. The Hollywood ideal of staying stick thin wiht a bump while preggo and being perfect after a week of giving birth is a crazy fantasy that we need to ignore (easier said than done I know). Good luck everybody!!

before i was even thinking of getting prego i was 110 pounds on a good day....nad then ended up being diagnosed with anorexia....i know pathetic right....when i decided that i wanted to get pregnant my nutritionist told me it would be best if i gained about 10 to 15 pounds to get back to a normal weight before i got prego.....well i reached my goal and was on my way to getting prego....in the begining of the pregnancy i didnt gain much weight due to the fact that it seemed my stomach rejected anything that i ate....but at the begining of my second trimester i started to gain weith i was so excited....but just recently i came back from a nice long weekend with my husband and had gained 5 pounds...talk about depressing.....so i went from 123 lbs and week 5 of my pregnancy to 140 lbs at week 22....when they tell you that your only supposed to gain 25 -35 lbs during pregnancy i think they maybe lieing....well i hope they are.....or my nutritionist isnt going to be happy....

I was beginning to think that I was crazy for feeling a wee bit guilty about my weight gain. I was in the best shape of my life before I got pregnant: I did drills and walked for 45 in complete turnout gear on my shift at the fire department, then I would get off and run 3 miles and weight train on my two days off. I'm at 30 weeks, and I've gained right at 30 pounds. And I'm short, so its all very evident! And my workouts have been knocked down to 35 min on my elliptical, IF I can summon up the energy! I know what our bodies are doing is an incredible miracle, and I honestly wouldn't trade it for anything, but I didn't appreciate what I had (a flat belly and remarkable cardio!) until it was gone! :-) Can't wait to get it back!

Holly--if you were anorexic, then you will and should gain more than the usual amount during pregnancy, and it will very likely come off easily. Eat when you're hungry, and whatever you do, don't try to diet. And don't weigh yourself constantly. You will gain water weight, particularly as you're in the 2nd trimester. Don't sweat it.
It's cool to hear all the different variations. We're all different. I was at the high end of normal when I started and was sure I would pork out, but haven't really packed it on yet. YET! Just made a batch of homemade chocolate chip cookies tonight.... My hubby's going through it too, and is likely to pack on almost as much as me. I find his cravings hilarious!

it makes me feel better to know im not the only one with the fast food cravings... you read the books and they make you feel like a horrible mother for even looking at the high fat fried stuff... its a little better now (im 19wks today) but i was very nauseous the first 3 months, didnt actually throw up much but i gagged several times daily. nothing ever sounded good.. but when it did it wasnt salad and wheat bread, it was pizza or taco bueno or something equally non-nutritious... since i wasnt eating i reasoned with myself that ANYTHING that sounded good that i could keep down HAD to be better than just not eating... but still i felt like i was letting the baby down by not eating only lean meat and vegetables like the books say... im just glad to know im not the only one out there with undeniable although unhealthy cravings..
thanks

i am so glad to hear that i am not alone! this is my first pregnancy and i'm only 12 weeks along, but i have gained 15 pounds!! (yikes) the doctor said about 10lbs are water retention (i'm having a big problem retating too much water). BUT, i have been eating sonic and KFC like there is no tomorrow. also, any type of pasta will do, and no matter how many servings it is.. i usually eat it all. :( before i got pregnant, i only eat fast food like 2 times a month. i ate healthy, but i would also eat just whatever there was to eat. now i'm so picky and i'm driving my husband nuts! he tries to make me something good to eat.. and i'll eat that... but then i'll go get something else afterwards. i'm a pig.

I am 12 weeks pregnant now and am still having horrible morning sickness. Usually I have a really good appetite and can eat more than my mom and dad, but that has changed! Everything makes me gag, and even seeing vegetables on TV makes me run to the bathroom to puke. The worst thing is that when I actually do have a craving for something, I can only eat like two or three bites of it and then I feel stuffed! When do all you more experienced people think my appetite should come back?

I completely understand how everyone feels! At my 20 week appointment I had only gained 8 pounds, so I thought that I was doing REALLY well. Then came the 24 week appointment.....I had gained 10 pounds between the 2 appointments!! Now I am worried that I will get HUGE. The thing is, I don't look like I have gained weight anywhere except my boobs and belly. It's not like I have just gotten big all over. All I know is that my husband absolutely LOVES my new body!!!

Wow, I can completely relate to this! I am on my third pregnancy. The weight gain always finds me fast and furious. I gained 47 pounds with my first, but then lost it all. When I got pg again, I vowed that I would keep it under control....HA HA...I gained 50 pounds the second time! I lost it all again in four months. Now that I am pg again, I am sure I will do it all over again, no matter how much I vow I won't. Actually, I am gaining a bit slower than I did with the other two, but I know I will get there anyway.

I am 6 weeks pregnant and find it weird that I love only vegetables. I really would like to only gain 25 pounds but now feel that may be unrealistic. I have been working out on the eliptical but everything scares me as far as baby's health. I was wondering is it weird that my first dr. appointment will be at 12 weeks with the actual obgyn? Also when was you guys first ultrasound

OK GREAT, I FEEL THE SAME WAY.
I NEVER WIGH OVER 125 AND NOW I AM 133 AND WAS GETTING FRUSTRATED. I DO NOT MIND THE WEIGHT BUT ALL THE WOMEN IN MY FAMILY ALWAYS AFTER HAVING A BABY KEPT THE WEIGHT ON AND NOW ARE HEAVY, SO I GUESS I AM GOING TO WORK EXTRA HARD TO BE A HEALTHY, FIT AND HOT MOMMY!!!!

This makes me feel so much better! At my 6 week appointment I weighed 135 and my 11 week appointment I weighed 143, and I was a little worried! I have only been craving fatty foods too, and have been eating McDonalds food and feeling guilty about it! I was an extremely healthy eater before I got pregnant but I guess with all the hormones that has all gone out the window. I'm hoping that I will enjoy eating vegetables again soon but for now, bring on the hamburgers and fries!

I am so relieved to read all these comments! I read all the "good mommy" websites about how I'm only supposed to have gained 3-5 lbs by now (in my 12th week), and feel so ungodly fat, since I've gone from about 111 to 121. I'm blaming at least 5 of those lbs on quitting smoking though... when people ask if I'm showing yet, I say yeah - I'm showing the bag of Doritos I ate yesterday!

WOW! I thought I was the only woman in the world who could gain 40-50lbs each pregnancy after vomiting the first 4 months of it! I am on my 4th pregnancy(what in the WORLD were we thinking?!) and once again I am still overcoming this hyperemesis thing. I am 13.5 weeks and 148lbs (I never lost those last 10 from the last pregnancy even though I delivered a 9.5lb baby). Nursing doesn't make ALL of us lose weight(in fact for me it made me hold on to it!). This pregnancy I had lost 10lbs after 5 weeks of continuous vomiting and then all of a sudden (in like 1 week) I gained it back! ARRRRGGG!! I am leaning towards an idea that we have some predestined weight gain factor that we are programmed with at conception that no DR. can override no matter how bad they try to make us feel. All we can do is try our best to eat "right" and "excersice". All this while chasing an 8yr old, 4yr old and a 2yr old and juggling household duties and any job we may hold. Yeah...let's stay away from that ice cream...NOT! Much love to all!

None of my clothes fits me the same- its super tight and all i'm craving are fries w/ketchup! *yum, just thinking about it makes me hungry. I have been sick for what seems like the enitre 12 weeks. I bought those sea bands (they work pretty good) so when I am not feeling sick I clean out the fridge...ya know to make up for the days I couldn't even look at food. I have gained 15 pounds in three months and I am NOT happy!! Not to mention the bloated puffy feeling and constent peeing. My mother has just been smiling, I think she is going to hit me with the "I hope this baby is just like you" curse soon.

This is so true, my first I gained 35 pounds and had a 5lb 3oz baby. The last one I gained 18 lbs and had a 9lbs 8oz baby. So you can’t even justify your weight gain by saying “oh, I must be having a big baby!”

I don't care how much I might gain - I just feel lucky that I am having a baby - I have been trying so hard to eat healthy with moderate activity and I figure my body will adjust. I tried to get pregnant for a really long time - so I try to put things into perspective when it comes to weight gain.

I was just wondering if anyone is having problems eating??? When I first found out I was pregnant I pigged out, but now I am 12 weeks and I just cant eat I mean when I feel a little growl in there I'll go get somthing or fix somthing but I cant eat all of it. I just wanted to know if this is normal and if its unhealthy??? Also is unhealthy for the baby to eat fast food almost everyday? I dont care about gaining weight I just want whats best for my baby! Thanks for listening!

I am feeling the same way as Ashley - I try to eat healthy - but I am full right away at 13 weeks. I lost two pounds last week so now I am forcing myself to eat more. I have been having smaller meals throughout the day and that helps - Fast food? MMMM - I think it is okay in moderation but if you are having a hard time eating and you can only stand french fries - I think that they are better than nothing. I would get a nutrition guide from the chains and see who has the lowest fat fast foods. Sugar intake is also important to monitor so don't have too much soda. I would check with your doctor. As long as you are gaining weight at a healthy pace and not losing weight you should be okay. Good Luck!!

Then today, I swear, 5 days later, I get ont he scale, 126! How can I gain 10 lbs in 5 days??? I know I need to gain weight, I just didn't think it would all get dumped on me in one week! At this rate I'll gain 100 pounds with this pregnancy!

it's true, believe it and change it!
1st pregnancy - was a tiny little 110 pounds, everyone said i would bounce right back because i was young and so i shoved my face with boxes of mac and cheese and cereal and meatball subs, mcdonald's....the very little 25 pounds i gained in 41 weeks, is still on me! luckily that still keeps me in a semi-normal weight range for my height.
2nd pregnancy - again thought i could stuff my face, i was hormonal and stressed and nervous. i ate and ate and at 26 weeks had already gained 26 pounds and gaining more! i changed my eating habits drastically and was finding i was less hungry and felt better and only ended up gaining a total of 10 more pounds in the whole last trimester! i lost it all after the baby while i kept up those great eating habits!
this pregnancy - i planned on staying more fit and healthy. before even getting pregnant i started working out at Curves and eat so well. staying very hydrated. and now im 12 weeks and have only gained 3 pounds. i have a great attitude towards a healthy weight control and eating habits during pregnancy and i see the importance of staying fit even now as i grow a bump.
ladies, the healthier you stay during your pregnancy, the easier it will be to drop those pounds after baby is born.

And I eat all day long. don't do big meals, i eat the same amount i use to eat when not pregnant but i'm having snacks all through out the day. What i can relate to though is the taco bell and pizza!!! I find it extremely good! :)

It's not really surprising that women who eat like pigs will gain large amounts of weight. If you consume many more calories than you burn, you're going to gain a lot of weight. It's sad that some women take pregnancy as a "green light" to eat horribly. It's more important to eat healthy during pregnancy than any other time in your life. Your baby needs it to grow strong and healthy, and your body needs it stay strong and keep your placenta healthy. A small indulgence now and then isn't a big deal, but eating nothing but junk is a terrible thing to do to yourself and your baby.
Ice cream (all natural) and pizza (without all the processed meats) really aren't that bad for you, though. In moderate amounts.
If you eat healthy and stay active during pregnancy, you're also more likely to have a better labor and delivery. Someone who has gorged on crap and laid on the couch for 9 months isn't going to have the same endurance and strength as someone who ate right and stayed active.
Soda is awful. The phosphates leech calcium not only from your bones, but the bones of your baby who's trying to grow.

For all of you who complain about gaining weight think of the bright side-at least you can eat! I would DIE to be able to eat ANYTHING-junk food or no. I am 12 weeks with my second and WATER still makes me vomit. When I do eat I can usually only get down two to five bites before I feel bursting full-and it's thrown up within the hour. I am so sick I can barely stand up-I get nauseous and dizzy immediately-and have been hospitalized because I have gone as long as 6 days without holding down one single bite or sip of anything. I've lost 26 pounds since I got pregnant and I am horribly miserable. Believe me-eat what you can. Making sure you eat as healthy as possible is a good thing, but if you can't keep it down you can't keep it down-go with what works. Good luck all =)

I just have to say, I envy some of you. I'm 15 weeks preg and I'm just getting over the I-can't-eat-anything nausia. And I've lost 3 pounds since last month. LOST. I just can't get near a food unless it sounds good to me, then my stomach is so small I can't eat half what I used to. I used to force-feed myself at work to keep the morning sickness at bay. Now all I crave is fruit. FRUIT! I can't eat enough to gain any weight.

I was so relieved to read that people are gaining weight at the same rate as me. In a lot of other websites some ladies were saying how they didn't gain until 6 months. I wanted to cry. I didn't experience morning sickness. I didn't even know I was pregnant until I was 11 weeks. Now I'm going to be 14 on Friday. The only thing that I can't eat is anything greasy or any meat. They disgust me. But I'm still gaining the weight like it's cool. I try ot blame the quitting smoking but I would think I should start maintaining... Sometimes I don't want to eat anything other times I could eat everything in the kitchen and still want more!

I'm actually not a meat eater (no chicken, turkey, pork, red meat- nothing, with the exception of seafood.) I've maintained this diet for the last thirteen years, but now that I'm pregnant (first true fetal pregnancy) it seems like all I want is steak and potatoes. While I haven't actually gotten up enough nerve to venture out and have it, for fear of becoming sick, I envision myself eating it and truly enjoying it. I have not really gained much weight yet either. As a matter of fact I've actually lost about six pounds since we found out we were expecting. Anyone been in a similar situation? Did you just eat the meat and find it was ok? Help a first time mom out with any pearls of wisdom please! :)

I am 7 weeks and I have already gained 8 pounds! My doctor said that its completely fine, I just hate that i am gianing so fast! directly before I got pregnant, I had lost 78lbs. I worry a lot about gaining weight back, BUT ITS WELL WORTH THE REWARD!!!

Yes, Yes - I finally started to work out 5 days a week again after my 6th.(yes 6) Now I am not exercising at all (too tired) I can not stop eating. Kid leftovers, whatever. I am 10 lbs heavier than my other preg. at 11 wks. I do know that I gain a lot in the beginning and and up losing my own body fat at the end because I can hardly eat. Then I am thinner after the baby is born than before I was preg. My husband reminds me of this and laughs telling me do not worry you are still petite. He is supposed to say that. How funny we women worry about our weight so much. But I feel so thick it is uncomforable.

I really enjoyed reading all the posted comments. They made me feel much better, I been struggling with fast food cravings, pizza cravings everyday. My main craving is bacon, egg and cheese biscuits with a coke for breakfast. I use to weigh 404 pounds and started this pregnancy at 180 pounds, I have already gained 30 pounds. MAKES ME REALLY NERVOUS and I will be 18 weeks on Sunday! SO SAD!

With my first I went from 165 with a flat belly, to 230!!! I found out I was pregnant with only 15 more pounds to go before I was back at my pre-pregnancy weight. I am now 11 weeks and I am at 170. I am still losing weight. I think it's because I can only eat enough to satisify a mouse. If I even think of eating I get very nausaus and end up only snacking on crackers. My babies' father is mad that I keep 'wasting food.' I just don't feel like eating. When I do eat I have to go lay down or I'll lose what I just ate. I have only gotten sick once and that was when I found it was best to lay down after eating. I work in a grilled sub shop where we are allowed to snack on fries. I thought I was going to get huge like I did with my son. I have my next dr appt in 9 days. I can't wait to see if I gained anything or if I'm still losing. I know I should gain weight and a part of me wants to, I just hate feeling fat. I live on the second floor of an apartment, carying the extra 65 lb from my son was hard. He just turned 1 yesterday and I'm going to have to carry him up and down the stairs and be big pregnant. My son weighs 23lb now. This is not fair.

You know, I'm sitting here and reading all these stories... and I can't help but get scared.
I've always struggled with my weight and now that I'm pregnant I feel like I don't have much control over it. My first two months were awful... but despite the nausea and fatigue I felt when I ate, I felt physically better. So now I'm in my 13th week and I've gained 15 pounds when I already weighed 160 (thats right, 175 now.) About a month or two before I got pregnant I was 153 which I felt pretty perfect to me at my height to keep my curves.
So I'm thinking wow... this is only the beginning as I enter the 2nd trimester... and I don't even eat as much fast food as I did before I got pregnant.
It's hard cuz I've always been scared of even the slightest weight gain and now I just have to keep thinking "it's for the baby!" And I'll do anything to make sure my baby is healthy.
Good luck to you all and just remember its for our babies. :)

Like everyone else, I can also relate to your story, and laugh at it. This is my second pregnancy. With my first, I was 130 at the beginning, and by the end I was 165. I dropped it really fast and stayed at a steady 140 for a long while. Then stress and life issues hit and I went back up. Now the second time around, and I started at 157. Not a happy weight for me, but I must admit I carry it well and you'd never guess that number. I'd also like to add my son is only 11 months old, so I havn't had all that much time to get the rest of the weight off!
Needless to say I'm scared at the ending number in this pregnancy! I'm trying to limit my sweets intake, but sadly I have a huge sweet tooth! I'm 12wks and 4 days today (December 10th) and at my last doctors appointment, I was 157. Stepping on my home scale today, it reads 160. I remember my first time around at the docs office, gasping when it read 140, then 150. Now I'm asking how much higher can I go this time????????
So if anyone's worried about it, you're not alone. Just try to limit yourself. You really don't need to eat for 2. I'm forcing myself to start walking on a regular basis and even to start yoga classes to keep the weight in check or at least make it easier to get back down to a good size after this baby is born.
Good luck to everyone, and remember no matter how much you gain, you're getting a beautiful baby out of it and that's all that matters!! =)

This article is sooo true! I gained about 50 pounds with my first pregnancy, and probably about 45 pounds with the second pregnancy. This is now my third pregnancy and I have been told to try to only gain 25-35 pounds with this one, by my doctor because I am now called "overweight". I went to WIC and spoke with the nutritionist and she told me to only gain 15-25 pounds with this pregnancy, lol. I am thinking that keeping within that limit is probably not going to happen. I am not worried about how much weight that I gain, because like everyone else said, its to have a healthy baby, and that is all that I care about.

I gained the reccomended weight with my first but with my second I went waaaay over. I'm talking about 20 lbs. I was not happy. Now I'm pregnant with my third and I don't know if I've gained any weight yet. I have yet to see my doc. I hope I don't gain too much. Good luck everyone. God bless!!

OMG I was laughing the whole time reading this article because I, along with some of you, can totally relate! I've always been petite, always weighing about 100-105 lbs, but in the last 3 months i've jumped to 115 lbs, and so i've had my OBGYN on my case telling me "you need to watch your weight..." (my set weight to gain overall is between 20-25 lbs) Ugh! I've been nothing but nauseous these last 2 months, and yet thats not stopped me from gaining those pounds. Is it really that bad?? The fact that everyone keeps telling me that women in their first trimester usually LOSE rather than GAIN weight doesnt really help make me feel any better. I want to eat healthy but some times I just want to eat...ahh the struggle continues lol

I went to my 11 week appointment, and my doctor whom is not my normal doctor. She is sitting in for my normal dr. who is on maternity leave! But anyways this one told me that i can only gain 10 more pounds!!! 1 was 190 lbs Pre Preggers But im not really that big i mean i fit into a size 16 pants...well did ^-^ but still saying that to the wrong mother could cause them not to eat b/c they want to do what the dr says! luckily i am not like that and happy with myself and what and how i eat, I have only gained 3 pounds since in 12 weeks! So it's not that bad. but i don't wanna put stress on myself and not eat i want my baby and myself to be healthy!.....stupid doctor making me feel bad!....
Well screw that! If i want some chips i will have some. Not a ton but just enough to make me not CRAVE them anymore just a hand full...
^-^

It's funny I just read this article. I just met with WIC yesterday, and I normally don't like to seek help from the state because I've worked every day since i was 16. But I work Per Diem at my local hospital and it's a job that starts me off on my career...well i don't get any benefits. So i pay my taxes for my mainecare and wic...so this lady i met with made me feel absolutely horrible because i gained 14 pounds. My pre pregnancy weight was 125. It's all in the chest and belly area, so i think it's fine. And I eat all the nutritional foods on the paramid. I've made foods out of the pregnancy books recipe section. And this woman had the nerve to tell me that i'm gaining too much. I'm a small woman, with a small frame, so I'm not worried about loosing the weight. I think it's good because the baby is growing. Also i know that retaining water can cause weight gain. And I'm 12 weeks and I know that the placenta is now fully functioning and that weighs a bit, plus amniotic fluid. But I felt like a total horrible person because i gained this much. Thank you for writing this article, it eased my mind much better.

Geez....Before I got preggers my job was a meter reader...which meant I was walking 8 hours a day and could eat whatever I wanted because I would just burn it off, Im by no means skinny but I felt good, well now im on a 2hour restriction of walkin a day which my job laughed at so Im stuck at home and eating like I used to ....Ive gained 8 lbs in 11 1/2 weeks!! OMG I dont even want to look at a scale anymore and cringe at the thought of my next dr. visit...lol I really do want to eat healthier for the baby, i just cant help myself...Thank you ladies for making me feel normal :)
