About the pregnancy cartoons
After many sleepless nights spent pondering the humorous nature of pregnancy, our yet-to-be-pregnant cartooning artist realized she was going to need some help from moms who'd been there. Happily, a beautiful collaboration between the artist and our snarky freelance mom blogger, the sarcastic journalist, sprung up to save the day! The humor was conceived together and each panel was hand-drawn by our relieved cartooning artist.

This one is funny, but I don't mind the questions and the touching, probably because I like talking about my honey. But I was thinking about getting a shirt that charges money, $5.00 for a belly touch, and for $10.00 you get to talk to him.

I agree with everyone here. There's some days I don't mind if people want to touch my belly but ask permission! I would like a shirt that says, U wanna touch, U ask. I also want a shirt like in the cartoon. I am gonna get one too. We have a mall close by that puts whatever you want on a t-shirt. If nothing else, buy a plain t-shirt and then go to Hobby Lobby or some other craft store and buy the iron on letters. Then just do it yourself. Let me know if it works out.
Then maybe I could take a few steps without being stoped by someone.

I don't understand how strangers can grasp the concept of pregnancy hormones (of which, mine can switch to anger quite quickly right now lol), but still think it's acceptable to touch a pregnant woman, despite said hormones lol. If I have to threaten one more person's life in the small town I live in, I think I might just act on it lol. j/k (kin of) lol

I'm a young expecting to be mother thats right at 22 weeks. I still attend high school and have noticed that everyone thinks its perfectly ok to stop and rub my belly. Its not even people I really know that do it. Its more like people I've never seen or knew from elementary but never got the chance to talk to. Its odd. Over the perceiving weeks its gotten a little annoying and I have had to shove a couple of comments out of mind in fear that I might really scare that person. I don't know, maybe its just me being hormonal.

Just a shirt that says "NO you can't touch my belly" would work for me. Strangers haven't been a problem yet, but people that I know. A friend patted my belly the other day as she left the room--I wanted to pat hers and see how she liked it.

I worked as a cocktail waitress up until 35 weeks, so you could imagine all the people I would deal with on a daily basis...The belly touching was annoying but didnt bother me as much as the ?s that people would ask over and over, week after week. I kept telling my boyfriend that I needed a big sign to wear at work that said "It's a girl...due July 10th...and no, we haven't picked out her name yet" I think this panel is great, and if I get pregnany again, I'm making a shirt like this.

Ladies, please relax a little. People are, and have always been, fascinated by the miracle of pregnancy. They only want to share in your joy. How many times in an average day do most people get the chance to see a real miracle happening in front of them. I know it's your miracle and certainly no one should be touched in any way that makes them uncomfortable. But try to enjoy the attention you get, share some of your happiness with those around you. Believe me, as a mom of 3 I know. It goes by much quicker than you realize.

Amanda I totally agree with you! It makes me feel uncomfortable when people come up and touch my belly, but it's alright I guess, but the thing I hated the most (with my first) was the people who come up and touch the baby (OR PICK HER UP) w/o your permission after she is born! What makes people think that is okay???
Funny cartoon, and hits the nail right on the head! So many questions, the same ones I answered from the same people last week! I love it when friends or family ask first to touch, sharing this amazing experience is fantastic ~ if ~ people ask, not assume! I didn't feel like that the 1st two pregnancies, and thought a tshirt with a huge red stop sign saying "stop, you grope my belly, I grope your....." would do well! But like I said, I feel differently this time round.
I have been saying I need a shirt like this, LOL! I teach 1st grade, so I have little hands touching my belly all day. Touching doesn't bother me, it's the chitchat I have to make everywhere I go. The same questions over and over. I know people are being nice, but it gets old! *sigh*

This is hilarious.....I really don'tlike people touching my belly but they r gonna do it anyway...so I just deal w/ it.....it sucks I only work 2 days a week now, mon and wed every monday that I work every1 is like OMG you are getting so much bigger!!!!! but it's only been a couple days since they saw me last! and the same people ask me every day what is it? and when's your due date??? I have to tell them the same answer EVERY time i go to work!!!

Gotta love this t-shirt I would love one. I can't stand it when people touch my stomach, especially my mother-in-law. I'm sorry the only one that can touch my stomach is my husband. Everyone else, BACK OFF!

See, everyone says this happens but I'm pretty far along and so far my public experiences amount to an old man on the bus grumbling at me for taking up too much room (I'm 5'2" and 140lbs at 30 wks, that's not that bad is it?), a heckler jeering me from across the street, a bag lady screaming at me for #@!*-ing someone and having a child, and nearly being run over by someone at a crosswalk (so I must not be THAT huge). Where are all these lovely strangers?

I love the shirt, I want to make one. So far I haven't had any problems but I sure could use that shirt around family and friends. I dont understand what the fascination is with the pregnant belly. The only person I like touching my belly is my boyfriend. The only other person allowed to touch my belly out of necessity is the doctor.
Cindy Jones - I couldn't agree with you more!!! I love being pregnant and have no problem with people touching my beautiful tummy, I'm so proud of it! I also espcially love when they get to feel the baby move. I do love that funny shirt that the artist created, but I would wear the sweatshirt you made "Go ahead, everyone else does!"
I guess I'm the lone dissenter! Actually, I do think the cartoon is funny. I just don't mind people touching my belly. For my first pregnancy I made a sweatshirt with hands all over it. It said, "Go ahead, everyone else does!" I especially like when someone, anyone, gets feel the baby move. Miraculous still, and this is my fourth ... so far!
Where can I order one of those? I need a simalar one for when my son is born for him to wear aswell. Strangers think that they can just come up and touch, and in some cases even try to pick the child up, its unbelievable. Especially when you realise that people actually ask for permission more often to pet a dog, than to touch a child.
Ill order big shirt from store and ask them abt letterings like that that goes "Gender: Unknown, Due Aug 27,2007 and DO NOT TOUCH OR I BITE"

I found a maternity shirt at walmart that say's "YOU'RE BOTHERING US!" I thought it was so cute I bought it and wear it practically everyday.

I agree whole-heartedly. I don't mind family and friends (as in people I know WELL)feeling my stomach, but what makes people think they have the right just to grope you? I actually showed this panel to my husband and he's asking a friend of ours who does screen print to make me a shirt like this.
this is exactly how i feel. i come to work everyday and some one needs to touch my belly, the next day i come in they go right to my belly im like "its the same as it was yesterday, dont worry ill let you know if anything changes" lol...ohh yeah then they talk to the belly and not to me...
can i get a shirt that says " WARNING: touch my tummy and prepare to get slaped or die or sumthing like that cuz its just what we are all thinking =P

i would so love to have a shirt like that. everytime i go to see my friends, everyone wants to rub my belly and see how big i've gotten. i think its really weird and when i realized i was pregnant i wanted to smack anyone who went up to me and tryed to touch my belly.

i rather like it despite the fact the woman is wearing one massive t-shirt which would be a huge fashion faux pas these days. i mean, it goes down to her knees!
still the expressions are all quite good. i suppose if i'd taken a day to finish each panel, they'd all appear this detailed.
