Each book listed here has been painstakingly reviewed according to three different criteria: 1) the books current reputation on the market, 2) the value of the information being provided to new and expectant parents, and 3) it's overall readability.
Some of the books are old standards (but newer editions) and some of the books were published last year and touch on topics in new ways that we believe are relevant to modern parents.

My mid-wife is a very huge fan of Ina May---she even goes to Ina May siminars. Unfortunately,I have to have a c-section (I have a fused pelvis). I wish there were more books on spiritual ways to approach a c-section. 10% of the population that has a c-section medically NEED a c-section--- maybe Ina May could cover more of this.

i'm planning a homebirth with a midwife and i loved this book. 'spiritual midwifery' is also a great read. to kally-i think the important thing to remember is regardless of how your baby gets here (homebirth, hospital, backseat of a car, epidural, all natural, c-section), the birth process is our moment to touch the hand of god. in any form, it is a miracle.

This book is great for anyone who wants to experience natural childbirth. Even if you don't want to have the baby natural its still a very informative book. It gives great stories of women who had their babies at home or in the birthing center without medication. With me being a first time mom it has opened my eyes to fact that childbirth is something we should be celebrating instead of fearing what our bodies are made to do naturally

I too read Ina May's Guide before the birth of my first child. I swear by the book, as it played a major part in preparing me for the natural childbirth that a lot of people said I wouldn't have the will power for. Reading about other women's experiences and the reinforced message that a woman's body is created for this task were very reassuring. This is a must read for anyone planning to give birth - even if an epidural is anticipated.
